Higher Plain reviews The Starter Wife

“The Starter Wife” is the lead single and it reminds me of Joni Mitchell in her early 70s folk-pop phase from a production point of view. It’s a lovely track with some hard-hitting lyrics, mixing guitars, strings and vocals beautifully to allow both power and reflection to co-exist. Vocally, Daphne Parker Powell has a traditional folk songstress voice that reminds me a little of Loreena McKennitt in timbre. The music is more of a folk/country effort but I think fans of both Joni and Loreena would be interested.
